From the 8th to the 11th of January, the 2019 edition of CES, the world’s technologies and innovation show, was held in Las Vegas. Koosmik was selected to participate in the Francophone Village competition: the start-up charmed the jury and won the jury’s favourite prize.
As every year, this is the event not to be missed at the beginning of the year. For this 52nd edition of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the largest international exhibition dedicated to innovation and new technologies, no less than 4500 exhibitors from all over the world attended it. For the second year in a row, Luxembourg has raised its colours at the Eureka Park.
Let’s make it happen
Organised by Luxfactory with the support of the Chamber of Commerce, Luxembourg Village extended this year over 100m2. 16 carefully selected Luxembourg start-ups were chosen to represent the Grand Duchy, twice as many as in the previous edition. Thus, alongside LuxAI and Motion-S, Koosmik has highlighted its innovative financial application and services for individuals and professionals.
“We didn’t plan to participate in the competitions.”
Grégoire Yakan, CEO of Koosmik
A strong presence
“We went to the CES to meet partners and investors,” says Grégoire Yakan, CEO of the startup, before he adds: “We had not initially planned to participate in the contests.” So that’s where everything was organized and done. Offering a specific mobile banking experience for under-banked populations, the startup has not gone unnoticed! The young company was thus awarded the jury’s favourite prize. “We didn’t expect it!”, says the CEO. “It wasn’t easy because you had to pitch very early in the morning and then run to another part of the town and hold your stand. Nothing to lose and everything to gain.”
“It was an emotional stay and we had wonderful encounters, mainly with decision-makers, which makes CES a very high quality event because of its attendance and intensity,” concluded Grégoire Yakan. As for the 2020 edition – which will be held from the 7th to the 10th of January – it already makes the startup dream to continue its “American dream”, while flying the flags of Luxembourg and Togo.
